Air China and China Southern have taken deliveries of their first COMAC C919 aircraft.

The Beijing-based Air China and Guangzhou-based China Southern became the second and third airlines to take delivery of the C919 – China's first locally developed large passenger aircraft which has been compared to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 family of aircraft.

Air China's first C919 (registration B-919X) – featuring 158 seats in a dual-class configuration (8 Business and 150 Economy) – completed its delivery flight from COMAC's facility at Shanghai Pudong Airport to Air China's hub at Beijing-Capital Airport on August 29.

The same day, China Southern's first C919 (registration B-919J) – features 164 seats in a dual-class configuration (8 Business and 156 Economy). The aircraft completed its delivery flight from Pudong Airport to China Southern's hub at Guangzou-Baiyun Airport.

With the two new aircraft deliveries, three airlines operate the fleet of nine C919s in service. Each of the Chinese big three carriers have placed orders for around 100 of the aircraft with deliveries scheduled from 2024 to 2031. COMAC has recorded over 1,000 orders for the C919s.

Since its first flight with launch customer Shanghai-based China Eastern, the C919 fleet has completed more than 3,000 flights carrying more than 400,000 passengers. China Eastern welcomed the seventh C919 to its fleet in July.
